In ensuring that South Africa maintains its standing as one of the best-producing and beneficiating diamond countries the State Diamond Trader (SDT) and its partners continue to create platforms for local diamond beneficiators to showcase and trade their beautifully polished diamonds at international platforms.
The entity recently collaborated under the theme “Provenance- Mined in South Africa, Manufactured by South Africans” with eight local diamond beneficiators to showcase various-sized polished diamonds at the Jewellery and Gem World Singapore 2022. The South African Pavilion was graced and officially opened by the South African High Commissioner in Singapore, Ms Charlotte Lobe who commended the State Diamond Trader for such a substantial role they play in promoting one of the best minerals in South Africa globally. “We need more of those initiatives to build our country’s brand and also to show the world that our country has much to give to the world,” said Lobe.
The State Diamond Trader has been facilitating the participation through a South African National Pavilion for the past 8 years, and this year partnered with eight local beneficiation companies that participated. These 8 companies included Thoko Diamonds; Rez Diamonds; JP Diamonds; Millennium Diamonds; Vivid Gem; Nungu Diamonds; Molefi Letsiki Diamonds and Hall of Diamonds. According to the State Diamond Trader Operations Manager Mr Conrad Van Der Ross, facilitating international market access for the local diamond beneficiating industry is one of the flagships that the entity pride itself with. “We are proud to have resumed this project after two years of lockdown and we are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure our clients and their product are exposed to different markets around the world”, said Van der Ross.
The entity is committed to promoting the growth of the South African diamond beneficiation industry, positioning it as the heartbeat of diamond beneficiation in South Africa.
The State Diamond Trader’s main business is to buy and sell rough diamonds to promote equitable access to and beneficiation of diamond resources. The main aim of the State Diamond Trader is to address distortions in the diamond industry and correct historical market failures to develop and grow South Africa’s diamond-cutting and polishing industry.
